Wentworth County Marriage Register

Rev. S. Stewart, Methodist Episcopal Church

Schuyler S. Teeple, 26, born Nelson, residing Beverly. Parents Jno. Teeple and Hannah Teeple.
Mary, 22, born and residing Beverly. Parents Jno and Eliz'th Cummings.
Witnesses W.H. Bennet and Melissa Teeple, both of Beverly.
On May 8, 1867.

The one Methodist Episcopal church in the couple's area was at Troy. Whether the marriage was held in the church or the bride's home, the marriage was almost certainly in Beverly Township. The county marriage records, typically, do not usually identify the exact place of marriage.

DeathHe died on 1 January 1924 at Silver Creek, Manitoba, at age 81.
NoteHe At the time of the 1871 census, Schuyler is shown as a farmer. He and Mary are shown as ages 29 and 26. With them is Alta, age 3 and Willoughby, age 1. Also present is David Fisher, age 19. David is shown as labour. Mary's brother David is married to a Fisher and David is probably a family connection.

By 1881, the family is in Galt, though their stay there could not have been long, for, according to the 1891 census at Marquette, Manitoba, Eva, born approximately 1883, is said to have been born in Manitoba. It seems unlikely that there were children born later.

Harry Cumming Teeple died in Beverly in 1883 and while his birth registration places his birth in Beverly in 1882, his death registration states that he was born in Galt. This latter is rather more likely correct. At a guess, Schuyler went ahead to Manitoba and then brought his family out shortly thereafter. The informant in Harry's death was Rev. James Webb, the Methodist Episcopal minister at Troy. Probably Mary and her children were with family members in Beverly until they were able to follow Schuyler to Manitoba.
