| Note | He Birth reg. 004346-69 Wentworth Co. Allen Willoughby Teeple born Sept. 4, 1869. Parents Schuyler S. Teeple, farmer, and Mary Cumming. Informant Schuyler Teeple, Beverley. Wallace McDonald is the registrar. Just what happened to Allen Willoughby Teeple is anything but clear. We have the above birth registration from 1869. He was born in Wentworth County and almost certainly in the township of Beverly. In the 1871 census at Beverly, he is shown as Willoughby, age 1, and the son of Schuyler and Mary. In 1881, the family is in Galt and he is shown as William, age 11. In 1891, he is with his parents and siblings in Silver Creek, Marquette, Manitoba, and he is again shown as Willoughby, age 21. Did he have issues to do with the name he used? 1891 is the last census wherein we find his name shown as Willoughby. After this, to a degree we can only fall back on the indexes as provided by Manitoba Vital Statistics on their website. This tells us that on 26 May, 1891, Georgie Currie married Allan William Teeple. We might question whether this is Willoughby, however the births in this index show (1) an Edith Pearl Teeple born 18 Jan., 1889, to Georgia Currie; (2) a Lisle Willoughby Teeple born 11 Oct., 1893, to Georgie Carrie; (3) the death of Ruby Cumming Teeple, age 15, at Brandon on 9 June, 1907. It's difficult to escape the conclusion that, with names like Willoughby and Cumming, that Allan William Teeple is actually Allen Willoughby Teeple. The 1901 census at Brandon, Manitoba, shows Georgie Teeple, a widow, age 32, born New Brunswick, keeping a boarding house. With her are three children: Pearl E. born 18 June, 1890, in Manitoba Ruby born 22, Oct., 1891, in Manitoba Lisle born 11 Oct., 1893. Manitoba Vital Statistics index also indicates that Edyth Pearl Teeple married Henry James Donlan on 20 July, 1916. They have not been found in the 1921 census. |
