| Note | A death registration for Benjamin Dorsey has not been found, though one has been found for Hannah, his wife. What we do have is the transcription of Beeton United Cemetery in Tecumseth Township of Simcoe County. This is made available by the Tecumseth and West Gwillimbury Historical Society. This excellent document dates Benjamin's death to January 1, 1875, and gives his age as 68. Hannah (Kidd) Dorsey died a bit earlier. Her death registration shows her date of death as 30 September, 1873. We must believe this for her death was reported to the Tecumseth Township registrar on October 11th, 1873. The cemetery transcription shows her date of death to be 30th September, 1874. This could be a typographical error, but rather more likely indicates a worn stone. Recent photo essays, such as Find-a-Grave, show a photo of Benjamin's gravestone, but not Hannah's. We are left to wonder if anything of her stone remains. Beeton United Cemetery's transcription was first published by the society in 1982. Benjamin's place of death is not for a certainty known. He may well have died in Tecumseth Township, but this is not stated. An obituary, if it exists, may say where it occurred. |
