Richard Kidd Dorsey
ID # 9039, (1855-1927)
Father | Benjamin Dorsey (1808-1875) |
Mother | Hannah Kidd (1822-1873) |
Birth | Richard Kidd Dorsey was born on 23 September 1855 at Beeton, Tecumseth Twp., Simcoe Co.. |
Marriage | He married Emily May Armitage on 21 April 1881 at Barrie, Simcoe Co., Ontario. Mrge reg. 010371-81 Barrie, Simcoe Co. Richard Dorsey, 25, bachelor, railroad employee, Methodist. Born Ontario, residing Barrie. Parents Benjamin and Hannah. Emma Armitage, 19, 'widow', Methodist. Born Ontario, residing Barrie. Parents Joshua and Elizabeth. Witnesses Edward Armitage of Barrie and John Ayer of Innisfil. On April 21st, 1881, at Barrie, by Rev. J. G. Laird. The above marriage registration shows Emma as a widow. Nothing has been found to confirm or deny this piece of information, and, while not impossible, it does seem unlikely given that she was 19 years of age. Also, if indeed she was a widow, her marriage to Richard shows her maiden name, Armitage. Unquestionably, this was her parental name. See notes for Emily, which was apparently her correct given name. |
Death | He died on 16 November 1927 at Collingwood, Simcoe County, Ontario, at age 72. |
Burial | He was buried on 19 November 1927 at Trinity United Church Cemetery, Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe Co.. |
Note | Death reg. 030355-27 Collingwood, Simcoe Co. Richard Kidd Dorsey died Nov. 16, 1927, at Raglan Street in Collingwood. Age 72 yrs., 2 mos. Married. Born Beeton, Ont., Sept. 23, 1855. Railway Conductor, retired. Resided 22 years at place of death. Parents James Dorsey and Sarah Kidd, Both born Yorkshire, England. Physician Dr. D. McKay of Collingwood. Informant George H. Coulter, RR2, Collingwood, son-in-law. Burial Trinity Cemetery, Collingwood, on November 19, 1927. Richard's parents are shown as James Dorsey and Sarah Kidd. Best information available is that this is incorrect. Richard and Emily's marriage registration shows his parents and Benjamin Dorsey and Hannah Kidd and this agrees with information to be found on earlier census year forms. It was probably more accurate to say that Richard was born near Beeton, but just when the Dorsey family moved from Caledon Township in Peel County to Tecumseth Township (wherein Beeton is located) in Simcoe County is uncertain. |
