| Note | William's marriage registration only shows Canada as his place of birth. At the time of his birth, the Dorseys certainly were not in Tecumseth Township of Simcoe County. William's older sister Ann, on her marriage registration, gave her place of birth as Islington. Younger sister Bethia's death registration places her birth at Mimico (rather more likely near Mimico). Either way, William's two sisters, one immediately older and one immediately younger, were born in York County. Most likely, William himself was born there. William's dates of birth and death are shown as 8 August, 1845 - 28 November, 1911, and Emma's as 21 December, 1853 - 26 June, 1948. The 1901 census at Oakland, Brandon, Manitoba, shows the family with dates of birth and the dates provided there agree with the dates of their births as shown on their gravestone.
