Note | Dates for Mary's birth and death are taken fro the family's gravestone in the Hollen Burying Ground, Maryborough Township, Wellington County. A death registration for Mary has not been found. The 1901 census places her with son William in Toronto. We do not know, however, if she died there. Mary is shown as May Moffatt, spinster, age 22, in the 1851 census in North Dumfries. She is shown as Mary on the entry for her marriage to Robert Hay in the First Church marriage book. The family gravestone in Hollen Burying Ground, Maryborough, tells that Mary and Robert had twin sons on 5 October, 1856. They died the following day. So far as the gravestone is concerned, these twin sons are unnamed. |
