Note | Stephen was baptized in the Wesleyan Methodist Church by Rev. A. Millar. The baptism was held in Maryborough Township on November 29, 1857. There must have been a Wesleyan Methodist presence in Maryborough from at least this time, though the web site, FadedGenes, does not record a Wesleyan Methodist Church in the village of Hollen until August of 1863. There was a post office at Hollen from 1852 until 1914. This latter per Ghost & Post Offices of Ontario, 1986, Floreen Carter. The FadedGenes website tells that the church at Hollen was destroyed by fire in 1915, the church records along with it. Death reg. 043580-43 Forest Hill, York Co. Stephen Moffatt Hay died on June 11th, 1943, at 224 Dunvegan Road, Forest Hill, Township of York, York County. Residence same. Widowed. Born Canada, age 85. Wife's name Caroline Ogden Hay. Parents Robert Hay and Mary Moffatt, both shown as being born in Scotland. Informant Mrs. W. R. French, 224 Dunvegan Road, daughter. Burial Toronto Necroplis, June 14/43. Stephen's father, Robert Hay, was born in Scotland; his mother, Mary Moffatt, was born in the Gore District of Upper Canada. |
