Margaret died before regulations came into effect for the recording of such vital statistics as deaths. No burial for Margaret has been found and an approximate year for her death has been entered.
Margaret may be the Margaret Pearce who appears in the 1851 census at South Dumfries. She appears as a servant with no obvious relationship to the householders. She was born in Ireland and her age is given as 18. There appear to be some inaccuracies with the record. The 1861 census shows Margaret as being born in Lower Canada, but this may not be correct. We cannot be sure that the Margaret Pearce of South Dumfries in 1851 was the Margaret Pearce who married Thomas Badger, but her given age places her as a strong possibility. The 1861 census also places daughter Elizabeth Ann's birth in Lower Canada, but her marriage record places her birth at Jerseyville. This latter is more likely correct. |
