If so, it may be that they were married by an army chaplain for the marriage record of Rev. Addison at St. Mark's Anglican in that place do not record the marriage.

NoteHe Our source for something of the history of John Aikman Sr. is to be found on page 133 of volume 1 of Ancaster's Heritage. John had petitioned for land and received a grant in Ancaster. He also petitioned on behalf of his wife Hannah, as the daughter of a Loyalist, and they received grants in Barton Township, to where they moved and the short biography dates John Aikman's death there in 1841.

The biography places the burial in First United Church cemetery at King and Wellington streets in Hamilton. The Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society does make mention of this cemetery, but it seems that there are no surviving readable stones.

The date of John's death, November 1, 1841, is to be found in volume 1 of Death Notices from the Christian Guardian, 1836-1850, Rev. Donald A. McKenzie, Global Heritage Press, 2011. This quotes page 11 of the Nov. 10, 1841, issue of the Guardian, and simply states that he died November 1st near Hamilton at an advanced age.
