Mary Aikman Hammill died October 3, 1888, age 92, farmer's widow. Born Barton Twp., Ont. Church of England. Informant Sarah A.W. Regan, Ancaster Twp.

Sarah Regan shows her mother's birthplace as Barton Township. This is possible, though should be further researched. Until shown to be otherwise, Barton Township is shown here as her place of birth. It should be noted that Ancaster's Heritage, in its paragraph for John Aikman, does not place the family in Barton, but one grant index indicates otherwise. This reference places the family in Township Number 8, which was later known as Barton, along with stating their presence in Ancaster. The index also places John Aikman at River La Tranche (the Thames River), so there is still much to consider.

See notes under husband Thomas. The cemetery transcription shows Mary's name as Mary A. This may reflect Aikman. The St. John's Burial record, however, shows her name as Mary B. Hammill, maiden name Aikman. We have no certainty, but this latter is probably correct.
