Birth | Matilda Ann Fawcett was born in 1839 at Guelph. |
Marriage | She married Peter Roy in 1855. The 1861 census shows Peter and Matilda in South Dorchester Township of Elgin County at the time of the 1861 census. Their year of marriage is shown as 1855. The family is Wesleyan Methodist. |
Death | She died on 8 October 1919 at Brantford, Brant Co., Ontario. |
Burial | She was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Brantford, Brant Co., Ontario. |
Note | Death reg. 008803-19 Brantford, Brant Co. Matilda Ann Roy died Oct 8, 1919. Age 80. Born Guelph. Residence 324 Dalhousie St. Widow. Father Thomas Fawcett. Informant Reid & Brown (undertakers). The list of children shown for Peter and Matilda is supportable. Different sources provide assistance. Of limited help, however, are the 1861 and 1871 censuses. The family was in South Dorchester Township of Elgin County as of 1861 and the handwriting of the name of the second child is little help. The 1871 census has the family in 'Brantford East, apparently in the township, and the handwriting of the enumerator is either poor, or, unusually, this 1871 census page is poorly reproduced. The paragraph of the Roy family history as it appears in the 1883 Warner & Beers History of the County of Brant provides six supportable names, but, beyond that, nine have been found and this may not be the list in its entirety. Such evidence as we have is shown at least to a degree against the very brief bios that appear with each name. |
