| Note | Our only information for the birth and Christening comes from the Wesleyan Methodist Baptisms as presented by bowergenealogy.ca/resources/methodist/ . This presents the original pages and the handwriting for Thomas's baptism is clear enough. This shows that Thomas Fawcett Roy was born in Dereham Township (Oxford County) on May 21, 1864, and baptized in Brantford on June 17, 1867. At the time of the baptism, the family was apparently living in Brantford Township, for their residence (perhaps post office) is given as Cainsville. This is the one record that we have for a sojourn of the family in Dereham Township. A date of death for Thomas or place of burial has not been found. The best that may be said is that he does not appear with the family as of the 1871 census.
It is a little startling that we do not find other Roy children shown in the Wesleyan baptisms list, until we notice that different clergy seemed to take more or less of an interest in making the baptism returns to the central office. |
