Rachel Lawrason

ID # 2818, (1819-1907)
FatherJohn Purvis Lawrason (1793-1865)
MotherAmelia Simons (1793-1837)
BirthRachel Lawrason was born in 1819.
MarriageShe married Obed Willson, son of Obed Willson and Hannah Vasbinder, in February 1839.
A very faded marriage bond exists for Obed and Rachel. The NAC dates it as 1839-02-02. Another transcription is being sought, but a marriage date of February 1839 seems likely, though where it was performed is unclear. It does state that Obed Willson is of Ancaster Township, Wentworth County, and Rachel 'Harrison' is of Dumfries Township in Halton County. The bride's name, Lawrason, is transcribed as Harrison. This will be caused by the fading on the document.

Both Ancaster and Dumfries were in the Gore District. The counties of Wentworth and Halton were not in 1839 administrative entities. The earliest Gore District marriage register dates from 1842. There is speculation that an earlier one existed but was lost. Without a church record we can only approximate that time period of their marriage to February of 1839.

DeathShe died on 10 January 1907.
BurialShe was buried at Drumbo Cemetery.
NoteRachel and Obed were in South Dumfries Township at the time of the 1851 census. The Wesleyan Baptism record for Titus Norville Willson, born in 1848 and baptized in 1849, is recorded in Blenheim Township, but was performed in Dumfries. The place of record may have to do with either the residence of the minister or to the location of the authority where he reported. The baptism of John Wesley Willson in 1856 was performed in Blenheim Township and is likely where the family was residing by this time. Certainly by 1861, the family was at C7-Lot 18 in Blenheim.
