Adam's second wife, Ann Eliza Able was the sister of Harriet Able Gamble, so his marriage to Phelinda had the blessings of the Gambles, at the very least.

NoteHamilton branch of the OGS has in its transcription of Troy Cemetery a grave for Margaret Laidlaw, wife of Adam, who died December 24, 1846. It is believed that Adam and Margaret Laidlaw were the parents of Adam who was born in 1832. The transcription indicates that there are worn and illegible gravestones around Margaret's. Probably, Adam, father of Adam, is buried here as well. According to the 1861 census, Adam Laidlaw Sr. was still living.
