Elizabeth was the daughter of Hugh Arthur and Janet Dickie. She is with them at the time of the 1861 and 1871 censuses in North Dumfries Township, Waterloo County. Hugh and Janet are shown as being born in Scotland, though any children enumerated, going back to the 1851 census, are all shown as born in Canada. Hugh and Janet are enumerated in the 1851 census in North Dumfries and so are their children living with them at that time, though the pages are out of order (a frequent problem with the 1851 census) and the later ones have to be looked for.

Hugh Arthur and Janet Dickie are buried in section 2 of Mountview Cemetery, along with their son William and daughters Jane and Janet.

There is one other burial for a child of Hugh and Janet. A son died in 1841 and was buried in St. Andrew's Church Cemetery. His stone is now a part of the pergola erected there by the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire. The Waterloo branch of the OGS provides a transcription which reads:

In memory of/David Arthur/son of Hugh & Janet Arthur/died 28th Sept 1841/aged 11 months & 20 days.

The family is not found in the 1832 census for Dumfries East, though such records as we have place them in the Branchton area, which is to the east of the Grand River which appears to be the dividing line for the 1832 census.
