| Note | Edwin and Margaret Cole appear in the 1861 census in Stamford Township. Listed directly beneath them on the page is a second Cole family evidently headed by an Ann Cole, a widow, age 46. Edwin Cole was born in England and so was widow Ann Cole. Edwin is a shoemaker and Ann's oldest son George is a shoemaker. The evidence is circumstantial, but it is almost certain that Ann Cole was the widow of Jesse Cole who died in 1853 and is buried in Drummond Hill Cemetery. Death reg. 021842-98 Niagara Falls Village, Welland County Edwin Cole died August 14, 1898. Age 78. Residence N. Main St. Niagara Falls V. Married. Born England. Informant J.A. Garner. William Dalton in his Drummond Hill Cemetery notes shows Edwin's burial as being on the 16th of August. He says that Edwin was called 'Teddey' and that, as a shoemaker, he worked a long time in the village for Mr. Thomas Cole and others. |
