NoteShe Jessie's death registration places her birth in Ontario; her marriage registration places her birth in Niagara Falls. Something like the latter will be the more correct, Indeed, her place of birth in modern day terms was probably encompassed by the boundaries of the modern day city of Niagara Falls. In 1856, however, this was probably not the case. The 1861 census shows Jessie with her parents and siblings in Stamford Township. Her father, Edwin Cole, is a shoemaker. The occupations of fellow residents are such as to indicate that they did not live in so much a rural setting as something a bit more municipal. There were several villages in the township at the time. These included Drummondville, Clifton, Stamford, and Chippawa. While we can't be sure just where Jessie was born, considering that her parents are buried in Drummond Hill Cemetery in Drummondville, makes Drummondville as good a bet for her place of birth as any. Considering that the family appears in 1861 in Stamford Township, for the moment this is close enough.
