| Note | John Vrooman died 4th June 1892. Ellen is living in the Muskoka District at the time of the 1891 census and is shown as 'married'. John is not found in 1891, but died in Caradoc, apparently living with his son John Vrooman Jr., the informant of his death. On December 7, 1892, Ellen married David A Smith, age 37, of Proudfoot, born U.S., parents David S. and Catherine Smith. She is shown as age 46, residing Proudfoot, and parents John and Hannah Kellestine. The witnesses were Misses A. Bacon and Annie Coleman, both of Burk's Falls. Ellen still has children with her at the time of the 1891 census, but by the 1901 census, she and David (he is shown as Amos in this census) are by themselves. Death reg. 026713-26 McMurrich, Parry Sound District. Ellen Smith, died Feb 27, 1926. Age 86 yrs., 7 mos., 3 dys. Born Canada 1840. Married. At place of death 27 years. Parents John Kellestine, born Montreal, and Ellen Stenaph, born Canada. Informant Mrs. E.M. West, Sprucedale, daughter. Burial March 3, 1926, Sprucedale. Ellen is buried in Sprucedale St. Paul's Cemetery, McMurrich Township. Her gravestone reads: Mrs. John Vrooman/ beloved mother of /Mrs. J. Orley/1840-1926. |
