| Note | Census information shows Jasper's wife name as Ellen. She appears as Nellie on their marriage registration. Ellen appears in the 1900 census at Detroit. Jasper is not present. She is shown as a washer woman, married for 15 years, having borne 5 children, 4 of which were alive. She is shown as having come to the United States in 1889. With her are children Ida M. age 14, Laura age 12, Lewis age 10, Florence age 5. Ida and Laura are shown as being born in Canada. The other children are shown as born in Michigan. Ellen is still in Detroit in 1910. With her are children Laura, Louis and Florence. In 1920, Ellen is in Detroit and living with daughter Laura and her husband J. Nicholas Hoffman. The Hoffmans have four young children. Ellen has not been found in the 1930 census, but Find-a-Grave records a burial for her in 1950 in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit. No record for Jasper's burial has been found. |
