Alanson Graves

      Alanson Graves was born on 9 August 1840 in Jamestown, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Roswell Graves and Mary Ann Betts.2 He married Hannah Jane Dowling on 8 March 1868.3 He died on 12 February 1894 in Haney Twp, Crawford County, Wisconsin, at age 53.1 He was buried in Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel, Grant County, WisconsinG.1

During the Civil War, he was a member of Company D, 31st Wisconsin Infantry later transfering to Company K. He participated in Sherman's campaign through Tennessee and the siege of Atlanta. He was with Sherman on his march to the sea and in the North Carolina compaign and fought in the Battle of Bentonville. He was mustered out in July 1865.
