Note | For something of the background of David Wismer Sr., see Fretz page 292. Fretz gives no dates of birth or death for David. We may reasonably source these elsewhere. It does tell that he married Lydia Everett; that he was a farmer and a Mennonite; and that he emigrated from Bucks County to Canada in 1806. He is said to have purchased a tract of land in Markham Township that was some 500 acres. Fretz shows the children of David and Lydia as Moses, Asa, Jacob, Henry, Nancy, Lydia, David and Samuel. Fretz makes no mention of dates of births or deaths for David and Lydia. Their gravestones, however, are in Quantztown Cemetery in Markham and are quite readable. David's stone indicates that he died on August 11, 1856, at the age of 87. This computers to a birth year of 1769, though this may be slightly approximate. Lydia's gravestone, beside that of her husband, tells that she died January 31, 1856. Her age is shown as 86 years, 11 months, and 27 days. This computes to a date of birth for Lydia as February 4, 1769. While this works for the math, there is some possibility that this is also somewhat approximate. |
