NoteEzra Eby in volume 2 of his Waterloo Township biographies has it that Elizabeth Shoemaker was the daughter of Daniel Shoemaker and Nancy Miller. Nancy is said to have died May 20th, 1846, apparently in Waterloo County, though this is not directly stated. Eby's volume was written in the mid 1890s and says that Daniel went to Filion, Michigan, with one of his children where he died August 23rd, 1892. Eby then lists the children and he dates Elizabeth Shoemaker's birth to November 11, 1836, which agrees with her death registration, below.

(Find-a-Grave locates Nancy's gravestone in Section C of First Mennonite Cemetery in Kitchener. Her name as shown on the gravestone is Schumacher. The researcher who provided the information for Nancy did an excellent job.)

What doesn't precisely agree is that Eby has Elizabeth's father as Daniel; her death registration, which is a transcription, has it that her father was David. With handwriting, the two given names, Daniel and David, can look remarkably alike.

One more comment.

The 1900 U.S. census in Lincoln Township of Huron County, Michigan, shows Elizabeth with her son Henry (both of whom are said to have come to the U.S. in 1888). Elizabeth is shown as having had 7 children of whom 5 are still living. Census information provides us with the names of six children. Daughter Rosina died in 1896. We are left to believe that there was another children for whom we do not have a listing. Wherever the child was buried the location won't be in the United States, but somewhere in Canada. There is probably a stone. It has yet to be found. It may well be that when Elizabeth's husband William died in 1888 he was buried with the child. A guess at best.
