Clayton McPherson Walker

ID # 8775, (1864-1938)
FatherThomas Melville Walker (1825-1907)
MotherElizabeth Kinsey (1840-1925)
BaptismClayton McPherson Walker was baptized on 25 November 1864 at Ingersoll, Oxford Co., Canada West.
MarriageHe married Kate Stiff on 22 February 1898 at Niagara Falls.
A marriage registration for Clayton and Kate has not been found. Interestingly, there was an era, around 1910, when birth registrations would ask for marriage information of the parents of a child. Elizabeth Margaret Walker was born at the family's residence at the corner of John and Shuter Streets in Wingham in 1910. This tells that her parents were married on February 22nd, 1898, at 'Niagara Falls, So.'

Niagara Falls, So.? Does So. mean South. Were they married in Niagara Falls, New York? Certainly, no record of the marriage has be found for Niagara Falls, Ontario. Something may yet turn up.

DeathHe died on 14 March 1938 at Grand Bend, Stephen Twp., Huron Co., at age 73.
BurialHe was buried on 17 March 1938 at Sec. D, Harris Street Cemetery, Ingersoll, Oxford Co..
NoteThe 1871 census in Oxford West Township shows Clayton Walker, age 6, with his parents. With them are a younger brother and two younger sisters. Also present in the household is Louisa Newcombe, Elizabeth Kinsey's neice.

Clayton, age 16, is still with his parents and siblings as of the 1881 census in West Oxford. He is still with them at age 26 in the 1891 census.

Clayton and family are in Wingham of Huron County at least as early as 1898 when son Frederick was born. They are there at the time of the 1901 census as well as the 1911 census. By the time of the 1921 census, they are Stephen Township of Huron County. The 1921 census does show them to be on lots 2 & 3, L.R.W., and if this is read aright on an old map from the 1870s, then they won't likely be far from Grand Bend. Certainly, Kate's death registration places her on lot 2 of Lake Road West and this is close to Grand Bend.

Clayton died in 1938 and is buried in Section D of Harris Street Cemetery in Ingersoll. Kate is buried with her daughters Mildred and Elizabeth in Wingham Cemetery.
