NoteSamuel's marriage to Catherine shows ditto marks under the column Times Previously Married. The nbr 1 may have been intended for Samuel, or almost anyone else on the page, but the evidence is that Samuel was previously married.

His first wife, buried in the cemetery at Strabane, Ontario, was Louise Jane Gilbert who died on May 4th, 1898. See the marriage record for Samuel and Louise.

Information for the death and burial of Samuel was found on Find-a-Grave.

A note here with regard to an available land record, which isn't entirely clear.

First, when Louisa died, her residence is shown as lot 20 on the 4th concession of Beverly. The 4th concession encompasses, mainly, the village of Rockton. A small portion of the lot (circa 1870s) immediately outskirting Rockton is shown as Gilbert property. In 1898, Samuel G. McCormick purchased a quarter acre of this lot, no doubt adequate to him for his trade as a carriage maker. Just where this was located on the lot isn't clear. It may have been outside the village of Rockton, or inside. At the least, Rockton was almost certainly the postal address for the McCormicks. When Samuel divested of his quarter acre has not been found.

Certainly, Samuel and Catherine were still in Beverly Township as of the 1911 census. With them are two daughters, Helen L. born in 1903 and Margaret born in 1905.

By 1916, the family was in Calgary where Samuel and Catherine lived out the rest of their lives.
