| Note | The baptism for Catherine Sarah Lovett appears in the central Wesleyan Methodist baptism record. It tells that she was born in London, England, on 15 March, 1868, and that she was baptized in Galt on 14 April, 1873. (The entry for the month is vague in the record, but probably correct. A local church record almost certainly exists.) The page is headed Township of North Dumfries, which is where Galt was located. The clergyman was J. B. Clarkson who was, at the time, the minister at Ainslie Street Methodist Church (now Wesley United) in Galt. Four Lovett siblings were baptized the same day. Catherine Sarah and Charles James are both shown as being born in London, England, Charles date of birth being 18 June, 1869. Amy Ann and Arthur Edward are shown as being born in Galt. Amy's date birth is shown as 24 December, 1870. Thanks to this, and for the moment, the best we may say about the immigration of the Lovetts is that they arrived either late 1869 or in 1870, the latter the more probable. Certainly, they appear in Galt in the 1871 census They all appear to be in the same household as Ellen's parents, William George and Sarah Clark. Also present are three of Ellen's siblings, not to mention their own children. Census shows Amy as the first child born in Canada and this agrees with the baptism record. A ship's passenger list that includes the Lovetts has yet to be found. Death and burial information is thanks to an entry on Find-a-Grave. |
