On 27th September, 1882, at Galt, by Rev. D. K. Smith.

Rev Smith, who performed the above marriage, and Rev. Jackson, who performed William's second marriage, were both clergy at Knox Presbyterian Church in Galt.

There was a fire in the annex of the church in the 1980s and most of the church records were destroyed.

The handwriting of the recording clerk in Galt of the era is at best difficult. The bride's mother's maiden name, Burrow, might be anything, but her name appears on a transcription of Mountview Cemetery in Galt and Burrow matches well enought to the clerk's handwriting to be so interpreted.

DeathShe died on 31 October 1888 at Galt, Waterloo Co..
BurialShe was buried at Sec. 2, Mountview Cemetery, Galt, Waterloo Co..
NoteDeath reg. 017747-88 Galt, Waterloo Co.
Mary Ellen Kay died 31 October 1888. Age 27. Married. Born Galt. Presbyterian. Cause of death arsenic poison. Physician Dr. Sylvester. Informant Wm. McBride Jr., safe maker, Galt. Registered 1st November, 1888.

Mary's death registration is shown in her maiden name. While not common, it was not unusual. A difficulty here is that the municipal clerk's handwriting, especially with his capital K's, was such that the indexing for Mary's death shows anything but 'Kay'.
