| Note | For the following, see pages 336-337, in the Commemorative Biographical Record of the County of York, Ontario, J. H. Beers & Co., 1907, Toronto. This has a biography of W. H. Widdifield, the son of William Widdifield and Annie Wilson. While the biography is for the son, there is much information for William Widdifield, the father, and his wife Anna Willson, who is described as the daughter of Obed and Hannah Wilson and tells that they settled in Ancaster. The biography places them in Ancaster in 1800. The Ancaster settlement date of 1800 may be a bit early, but not far off. Anna's date of birth is shown as Sept. 26, 1799, in Essex County, New Jersey. This conflicts with her death registration which places her birth in Independence County, U.S. For the moment, we will show Essex County as her place of birth. Her date of death, as shown above notwithstanding, has conflict problems. Her age as of date of death shown on her gravestone would have her born in 1800. A Society of Friends' record has her birth shown as 26 August, 1799. This is shown here. The biography tells that they were Quakers (Society of Friends). For all the background information, the biography does not tell the date of William and Anna's marriage. It does state, however, that their first child was Jonathan who was born in 1817. Anna was probably about 16 when she was married. Death reg. 022052-83 Whitchurch Twp., York Co. Anna Widdifield died 18th June 1882, age 82 yrs, 9 mos., 22 dys. Widow of Wm. Widdifield. Born Independence Co., U.S. Cause of death apoplexy 10 days. Religious affiliation Friends. Physician Dr. Widdifield. Informant John H. Widdifield, farmer, Whitchurch. Death registered with township clerk on 23rd February, 1883. Anna's death was in 1882, but since it was registered in 1883 it is to be found on 1883 microfilm at the Archives of Ontario. Anna was buried in Pine Orchard Friends Cemetery in Whitchurch (now known as Whitchurch-Stouffville). Burial information for Anna and William may be found on page 28, image 30, Pine Orchard Friends Cemetery in Whitchurch-Stouffville, stone O17.10. The transcription reads: Anna Widdifield died June 18 1882 AE 81 y's & 10 m's, 23 da's Her age at time of death as shown on the gravestone conflicts with the above death registration. The calculation also conflicts with her date of birth as it appears in the County of York biographical record, 26 September, 1799, which is shown here. The list of children for William and Anna as shown here, at least initially, is based on the vignette shown for the couple in the 1907 Biographical Record of York County for their son, William H. Widdifield. |
