This is an extraction from the March 9th, 1836 edition of the Christian Guardian of Toronto. On the 5th inst., the Rev. S. Stewart, Wesleyan preacher & Sarah Teeple, both of Nelson, were married by the Rev. Mr. King. Census information indicates that Rev. Schuyler Stewart was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The above does not state the exact place of the marriage, but it was probably held in Nelson Township. |

| Note | A death registration for Sarah Teeple Stewart has not been found. For the following see Vol. 8, Obituaries from the Canada Christian Advocate, 1873-1884, Donald A. McKenzie, Global Heritage Press, page 220. This tells that Mrs. Sarah Teeple Stewart moved with her parents in childhood from NY state to Nelson Twp. In 1835 (correct) she married Rev. S. Stewart. She died in Ancaster Tp on Feb. 19, 1881, which agrees with the inscription on her gravestone, at age 82. See notes for Sarah's mother. It's from this that we take what we may reasonably be Sarah's place of birth, namely New York State. |
