NoteThe 1859 marriage registration for Jesse Pattison and Isabella Eliza Cook shows Jesse's place of birth as Gainsboro (Township). This is in Lincoln County. It shows his current residence as Moulton (Township), which is in Haldimand County.

The 1861 census shows Jesse and Isabel on a census page entitled Moulton & Sherbrooke. Given the previous information, we must believe that they are in Moulton Township. They are shown as farming and Jesse is shown as United Brethren. With them is daughter Jane, age 2.

The 1871 census shows Jesse and 'Eliza' in Walpole Township, Haldimand County. They now have four children:

Eliza J. (Jennie), age 11
Michael, age 6
Richard, age 3
Harriet, age 1

By the time of the 1881 census, we must believe Isabella Eliza Cook to be deceased, for Jesse is shown as a widower. With the family are Thomas A., age 9, and Sarah A., age 7.

Later in 1881 Jesse married a widow by the name of Clara Hill, age 30. She names her parents as Francis Alair and Mary McNorton. The handwriting on the registration is not entirely clear as to her parents' names, but census information confirms the name Alair to be correct. It is possible that Clara's mother's maiden name was McMaster.

The 1891 census shows Jesse and Clarissa in Walpole. With them are Thomas and Sarah, evidently from Jesse's first marriage. It does not appear that Jesse and Clara had any children.

Death reg. 006482-95 Caledonia, Haldimand Co.
Jesse Pattison died May 4, 1895, age 66. Born Dunnville. Physician and informant Dr. W. J. Burns of Caledonia.

The above death registration places Jesse's birth in Dunnville, which is in Haldimand County. This is almost certainly incorrect. Both of Jesse's marriage registrations place his birth in Gainsboro Township, information which he himself will have given. Gainsboro is a township in what was in 1838 the old Niagara District, but later, with the advent of the county system, in Lincoln County. Gainsboro is maily bordered by townships in Lincoln and Welland counties, but does have a short border with the township of Canboro in Haldimand.

Jesse's age, 66, as shown on his death registration is probably older than he actually was, simply based on such census information that may be found.
