(by Rev. James Strang) on May 25, 1852

Linus Hall and Minerva Smith, both residing Beverly
Witnesses Levi Lawrence and Jane Moore.

In the above, Rev. Strang does not tell us whether the marriage was performed in North or South Dumfries. It was only in recent months that Dumfries had been divided between the north portion, which was in Waterloo County, and the south portion in Brant County. It's entirely a guess, but the marriage was probably in North Dumfries.

DeathHe died on 24 February 1896 at North Dumfries Twp., Waterloo Co., at age 66.
BurialHe was buried at Sheffield Cemetery, Beverly Twp., Wentworth Co..
NoteDeath reg. 019744-96 North Dumfries Twp., Waterloo Co.
Lines W. Hall died Feb. 24, 1896. Age 66, laborer, born Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Cause of death cancer. Physician Dr. Cameron. Name of informant (not entirely legible) W. M. Harstedt, Branchton. U.B.C.

(U.B.C. indicates that Lines was a member of the United Brethren Church which was located in Sheffield in Beverly Township of Wentworth County. This was a short distance from Branchton in North Dumfries Township of Waterloo County.)

Census years place Lines' birth in the United States. His death registration is the only information that locates his birth in Pennsylvania.

The 1861 census locates Lines and his wife Minerva with their early children in Walpole Township in Haldimand County.

The family is still in Walpole as of the 1871 census, but must have moved not long after, for son David was born in 1874 in Beverly Township and the family was still there when he died in 1877. Daughter Zobeda was born in Beverly in 1875.

Lines and family are in North Dumfries Township of Waterloo County in 1881.

The 1891 census locates Lines and his family in Galt.

He appears to have been back in North Dumfries when he died in 1896.

At least initially, years of birth for the children of Lines and Minerva are approximated from census information. This does not always agree with an approximated year of birth as taken from their ages at time of marriage.
