Waterloo County Marriage Register

Arthur Burnett, born Scotland, residing North Dumfries.
Helen Thompson
Witness Walter Bennoch, residence New Hope
On December 3, 1858.

The county marriage registers do not typically show the actual location of the marriage. They do however usually show the ages of the contracting persons as well as their parentage. Both are omitted on this registration and Helen's place of birth and residence are omitted as well.

MarriageShe married James Thompson
DeathShe died on 26 April 1909 at Galt, Waterloo Co., Ontario, at age 92.
BurialShe was buried at Section 4, Mountview Cemetery, Galt.
NoteHelen Turnbull Thompson Burnet is buried with her first husband, James Thompson, in Mountview Cemetery in Galt, though he died early enough, 1855, to have been originally buried at the First Church Presbyterian Cemetery in High Park in Galt. Associated graves include the names Turnbull and Bennoch and it's evident that Helen is buried with members of her first family.

Death reg. 029774-09 Galt, Waterloo Co.
Helen Turnbull Burnett died April 26, 1909, at Galt. Born Scotland December 15, 1816. Age 93 yrs., 4 mos., 11 dys. Widow.
Physician Dr. A. Thomson.
Informant W. Burnet, Galt.

The space for Helen's parentage is filled in, but the informant, almost certainly Helen's son, misunderstood the question. He took it to refer to his parents and so he entered Arthur Burnet and Helen Turnbull, both born Scotland. This occasionally happened and can be found on other registrations.
