The county marriage registers do not typically show the actual location of the marriage. They do however usually show the ages of the contracting persons as well as their parentage. Both are omitted on this registration and Helen's place of birth and residence are omitted as well. |

| Note | Familysearch does not appear to have Arthur Burnet in their Scotland Births and Baptisms database. David Currie, in his 1993 work, The Family History of the Scotts and Millers of Galt and Dumfries Township, shows Arthur's date of birth as April 29, 1799. This is based on David's researches in Scotland and will no doubt be correct. It was evidently Arthur who filed the death registration for his brother James, so we are on safe ground with the family connection. Also, it is David who pointed out that Arthur married again after the death of Margaret Laing. His second wife was Margaret Turnbull Thompson. Death reg. 018563-81 Galt Waterloo County Arthur Burnett died 5 August 1881, age 83. Born 'Corselee' (Crosslee), Scotland. Physician Dr. Lundy. Informant Alex. A. Burnet, farmer, Dumfries. A note here. David Currie, in his above mentioned work, places the births of siblings Alexander Burnet through to sister Elizabeth at Crosslee. This was in the Ettrick valley and seems to be the farm where the children were born. (The second Thomas and brother James were born elsewhere.) Familysearch simply identifies the location in their database as Ettrick in Selkirk. Arthur and Margaret are buried in Section 4, Mountview Cemetery, Cambridge/Galt. This was recorded by Norma Huber of the Waterloo Region Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society, 1986.Margaret's date of death is recorded as Oct 5, 1852. We may note here that Arthur Burnet is listed on lot 6 of concession 6 on the 1832 census of Dumfries Township east of the Grand River. See MS700 reel 1. This same document shows Arthur as being next door to his brother-in-law, William Scott. William Scott and Janet Burnet are on lot 7 of the same concession. |
