The clergyman, K. J. Macdonald, was minister at First Church in Galt from 1912 (see Hugh Cant's Historical Reminiscences of Galt And Other Writings, which includes a photograph.) 18 Spruce Street was, at the time, the First Church manse. The Himes family grave in Prospect Cemetery is shown in a Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries database as section 24, lot 480 2GL. Alf was missing two fingers on left hand, and your researcher always assumed he'd lost them in an industrial accident. His army papers from WW1 tell that he had an accident with an axe in 'childhood'. It was later understood that he was cutting firewood when the accident occurred, resulting in the amputation of the two fingers. |
