This dates her baptism to October 27, 1895. Her baptized name is shown as Florence May. Her parents are shown as William Henry and Florence Frances Symonds. Their residence is given as 7 James Street. William's occupation is not legibly written. The clergyman who baptized Flo is Alan Ewbank. September 23, 2004 This morning in the Toronto Sun on page 3 is an article for Flo for her 109th birthday. Her date and place of birth is given. Her maiden name isn't given; that comes from another source, but her marriage history is given. The story says that she was the eldest of seven children. She came to Canada in 1906 and worked at a Manitoba farm. Her first husband was William 'Billy' Warren and they were living in Montreal when he died. By him, she had a son, Dr. Russ Warren, who became a nuclear physicist. He died at age 85, date not given. The September 23rd, 2004, edition of the Toronto Sun, page 3, has a full page spread for Flo's 109th birthday with an attractive photograph. This tells that her second husband was Alfred Balmforth. She married him after the death of her first husband, Billy Warren. They were living in Montreal when Billy died. A record of her marriage to Balmforth has been sought, but not found, nor a record of his death. Her third husband was Alf Himes. The story, quoting stepson Cliff Himes, said that they were married in 1952. The source for Flo's maiden name is found in her obituary. Per the Toronto Star issue of December 9, 2005, Flo's date of death is shown as December 8th. Mount Pleasant Cemetery Group shows her buried with her husband Alf Himes and his first wife, Lottie Victoria. And, yes, Flo was 110 years old when she died. |
