NotePettit family history, as it appears in Vol. 7 of The Annals of the Forty, quotes Nathaniel Pettit's bible records for the birth of his children. Here we find the birth date of Rachel.

While it certainly appears that Nathaniel Pettit served his king well during the American Revolutionary War, his status on the list of United Empire Loyalists appears unclear. What we may say is that Lawrance Lawrason of Grimsby in 1797 petitioned Peter Russell for a 200 acre land grant based on his wife being the daughter of Nathaniel Pettit. This petition is to be found on microfilm C-2125, Vol. 284, L bundle 3, petition 105. Page 45 of Book D, microfilm C-101. This is dated 12th May, 1797, though the cover of the petition is dated 3 October, 1798. The entry reads:

Lawrence Laurason praying for land in right of his wife as a Loyalist. Rachael Laurason recommended for 200 acres as UE.

Unquote.

Probably, the above recommendation was referred to the Surveyor General. His office would search to ensure that there was no previous grant of land for Rachael based on an earlier petition. Since no response has been found, it isn't clear as to the outcome of this recommendation. A record of it has not been found in the Ontario Land Record Index, nor has it been found in Upper Canada Sundries where failed petitions sometimes dead-ended.

Probably, this petition was successful and a record of it will be found, or perhaps the record has not survived. See notes under Abigail Pettit and her husband Thomas Willson. They successfuly petitioned the Crown for a land grant based on Abigail being the daughter of a Loyalist.
