John James Vroman, farmer, son of George L. Vroman and Margaret Vroman. Residence of the groom is shown as Rush town (or township), Jo Daviess County. His place of birth is given as Canada West.

DeathHe died on 14 May 1864 at Resaca, Georgia.
NoteAt the time of the 1850 census at Millville, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, John is living with his brother Adam. He is shown as a cooper. In 1860, he is shown as a carpenter. He is married to Eunace E., and they are both shown as born in Canada. They have two children, Rosa M., age 8-1/2, born in Illinois, and George M., age 3, born in Minnesota.

On 5 August, 1862, John Vroman of Apple River, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, enlisted as a Private in the Union Army. He was assigned to Company K of the 96th Infantry Regiment of Illinois. He was still a member of Company K of this regiment when he was killed on 14 May 1864 at Resaca, Georgia.

We know Eunice's maiden name from information provided by a descendant of the family.

Of interest is the 1857 state census for Minnesota taken at Faribault County. There and listed adjacently are John J. Vrooman and his wife Eunice E. with son George H., and Elias Vrooman with his wife Jane. With Elias and Jane is Ellen Davies, apparently single, with her age badly written, but which may have been 60. Her place of birth is given as P.E. Island. (Other censuses place Ellen's birth in New Brunswick. An examination of family members with them at the time of the 1870 census at Owen, Winnebago County, Illinois, suggests a Woolery connection.) John and Eunice and Elias and Jane are all shown as born in Canada. John's son George is shown as born in Minnesota. His age is given as six months. Since the state enumeration was done on 10th October, 1857, this places George's birth in 1857.
