Judson Smith was born on 31 July 1857 in Beverly Twp, Wentworth County, Ontario.1 He was the son of Albert Kellogg Smith and Amelia Misener.1 He married Lucinda Coleman, daughter of Daniel Coleman and Mary Abel, on 31 October 1882 in Galt, Waterloo County, Ontario.2 He died on 20 November 1931 of a cerebral haemorrage caused by a fall from a tree in Galt Hospital, Galt, Waterloo County, Ontario, at age 74.3 He was buried on 23 November 1931 in Mountview Cemetery, Cambridge, Waterloo County, Ontario.1

Judd Smith was very popular with the Colemans. He owned one of the first motorized taxis in Galt and, if he didn't have a fare, he'd pick up family members and drop them off at a convenient intersection.

Bert Coleman liked to tell a great story about Judd. Judd worked with his taxi mainly out of the CPR Station in Galt. One winter's day he was waiting for a fare when an insurance salesman approached him. He'd been after Judd to buy a disability insurance in the event that he was injured and couldn't work. Finally Judd broke down. He said, 'Okay, I'll buy your insurance.' He signed onthe dotted line, gave the fellow his first premium, turned around stepped up onto the running board, slid on some ice and fell down and broke his leg. The story is that he lay there in the snow and the slush and had quite a laugh.1
