Thomas Lougheed

ID # 9440, (1820-1890)
BirthThomas Lougheed was born on 30 November 1820 at Ireland.
MarriageHe married Charlotte Gibson, daughter of Joseph Gibson and Charlotte Bodell.
Thomas and Charlotte are both shown as Church of England in the 1861 census in Collingwood Township of Grey County. The form has also a column to show the year of marriage, which, for thomas and Charlotte, was 1855. This rather immediate era has little in the way of listed civil marriage registrations. For the moment, none has been found for Thomas and Charlotte. In all probability there is a church record.

DeathHe died on 21 January 1890 at age 69.
BurialHe was buried at Thornbury-Clarksburg Cemetery, Collingwood Twp., Grey Co..
NoteA death registration for Thomas Lougheed has not been found. His date of death is taken from a transcription of Thornbury-Clarksburg Cemetery as provided by the Bruce-Grey branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. See page 77.

The 1861 census for Thomas and Charlotte as taken in Collingwood Township, shows them as being married in 1855. This census shows them with seven children, and the ages of these children indicate that the first five were born prior to 1855. Unless Thomas was married to an earlier Charlotte, we must believe that the 1861 census is in error when it tells that Thomas and Charlotte were married in 1855, for the first three children of Thomas and Charlotte, John, James and Thomas, are both present in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. The pages for the 1851 census, so far as the Lougheed family is concerned, are mixed up, but the couple may be found in Euphrasia Township of Grey County and an examination of the two censuses should be convincing.

The couple were both evidently Anglican. A marriage registration for them has not been found, but the Anglican church was not obliged to file marriage registrations with the civil authorities during District days.
