Marriage | She married Gilbert Markle in 1836.
Page 197 of Donald McKenzie's volume 5, Death Notices from the Canada Christian Advocate 1858-1872, 2011, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now of Ottawa), has the death notice for Gilbert Markle who died 22 February, 1862. This tells that he was married to Matilda Walcot in 1836. It does not give a location of the marriage. |
Note | See the marriage record for Gilbert and Matilda. The obituary for Gilbert's death, from which the marriage information is taken, tells that he married Matilda Walcot in 1836. One of the children's marriages names her mother as Matilda 'Wilket'. The spelling of Matilda's maiden name may not be represented entirely correctly, but, pronunciation-wise, Walcot is probably not far off. Census information indicates that she was born in Canada West (actually Upper Canada at the time.) |
