Page 197 of Donald McKenzie's volume 5, Death Notices from the Canada Christian Advocate 1858-1872, 2011, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now of Ottawa), has the death notice for Gilbert Markle who died 22 February, 1862. This tells that he was married to Matilda Walcot in 1836. It does not give a location of the marriage. |

| Burial | He was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Garafraxa Twp.. |
| Note | See Gilbert and Matilda's marriage notes. This obituary tells of Gilbert's death of apoplexy (stroke) on February 22, 1862. It gives his age at time of death as 48 years, 2 months and 23 days. This computes to a date of birth as being November 30, 1813. The obituary places his birth as being in Canada West (actually Upper Canada at the time). His death is said to have been in Garafraxa Township, located in Wellington County. The obituary does not mention his place of burial, but the Wellington County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society records a transcription of his gravestone, which is located in Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Garafraxa Township. This confirms his date of death as being February 22, 1862. The list of children for Gilbert and Matilda is, initially, taken from the 1851 census for Garafraxa Township. For the moment, their birth years have been approximated from this census. This census was not taken until January of 1852 and the age question was: What is your age as of your next birthday? This was probably not always answered accurately. The Markle family has yet to be found on the available pages of the 1861 census. They are, probably, still located in Garafraxa Township, or in what became West Garafraxa Township. |
