The township registration must have had trouble with the handwriting of the reporting clergyman. Two birth registrations have been found for daughters of Thomas and Martha and they make it clear that Martha was indeed Martha Dorsey.
 
NoteDates of birth for Thomas and Martha are taken from the 1901 census as enumerated for Elkhorn Village in Manitoba. With them is son Milburn. Daughters Ethel and Selina have only been followed to the 1891 census in St. Marys, Perth County, Ontario.

Thomas' parents are said in his marriage registration to be Alex and Jane. This is probably the Alex and Jane Smith who appear in Blanchard Township of Perth County in the 1871 census. They have with them nine children, the first one listed being shown as Thomas, age 21. Blanchard Township is where, in Perth County, St. Marys is located, and where Thomas and Martha resided as late as the 1891 census. The dates of marriage for Thomas and Martha are taken from the 1901 census.
