| Note | At first glance, information for John Little's place of birth varies. His first marriage registration shows his place of birth as the Township of West Gwillimbury, which, from around 1850 was in Simcoe County. Previous to this, the township was in the Home District. John's second marriage registration has bis place of birth as Tecumseth Township, which was immediately adjacent to West Gwillimbury and, after 1850, in Simcoe County. John's third marriage registration simply has his place of birth as Simcoe County. His fourth marriage registration has his place of birth as Toronto. It seems safe to disregard this. The family of John has not been found in the 1851 census. By the time of the 1861 census, John is with his parents in Listowel of Perth County. To keep it simple, his place of birth is shown here as Simcoe County. This is casting a wide net, but seems the best that can be done, or at least until an informative obituary is found. His death registration, below, is of no assistance. Death Reg. 037075-28 Guelph, Wellington Co. John Little died October 24, 1928. Place of death 49 Cork St. N. Widower. Born Ontario April 9, 1849. Implement Agent. Residence at place of death 5 months. Father John Little, born Irelad. Mother's name not known, but born Ireland. Physician Dr. T. M. Savage. Informant John A. Little, 89 Bond St. Galt, son. Burial Galt October 26th, 1928. A transcription of Mountview Cemetery in Galt (now Cambridge, Ontario) was done over a number of years. This included burial cards wherein the burial was recorded by the cemetery office, but the name did not, at least at the time of transcription, appear on a gravestone. John is buried in Section 3 of Mountview with his 3rd wife Lillie and their daughter Laura. A note here: John Little and his second wife, Annie Kidd, were in Tecumseth Township of Simcoe County as of the 1881 census. Later that year, in November, Andrew Franklin Little was born. No death registration has been found for Annie, but since John married his third wife Lillian in 1884, we may say that Annie was by that time deceased. The 1891 census has John back in Listowel, this time with Lillian. They have with them a son, age 9, of unpronounceable spelling, but almost certainly intended as Frank. We must believe him to be Andrew Franklin Little, born in 1881. |
