Joseph's father was almost certainly Robert and not Richard. See his baptism information. This was probably a handwriting problem...and not the only one. The above document shows Joseph's age to be 38. This does not work with his age as shown on his baptism. Note that Joseph's mother was Mary Ann Fleury. According to a transcription of Esplin Cemetery in Proton Township, Joseph and Helen/Ellen have with them buried a son named Fleury Love.

The marriage registration of Joseph and Ellen (Helen) shows Joseph's father to be Richard. This is surely an error. The Wesleyan Methodist baptism page for King Township shows two baptisms for the children of Robert and Mary Ann of King. We must believe the Joseph's father was indeed Robert. The 1871 census bears this out.
