On Jany. 1st, 1870, at Widder, Bosanquet Twp., by Abraham Hayworth, by banns. A location note for the village of Widder. There were essentially two Widders. Widder Station was adjacent to the village of Thedford. Indeed, the post office at Thedford took over the post office at Widder Station in 1876. The village of Widder was a few miles further west. It was originally known as Pine Hill. Floreen Carter, in her 1986 Ghost & Post Offices of Ontario, page 718, tells that Pine Hill was established in 1851. By May 1st, 1856, the name of the post office had been changed to Widder. The Widder post office remained in existence until 1913. It seems likely that Henry and Olive were married in Widder, well west of Widder Station/Thedford. |
