Note | Death reg. 008296-78 West Williams Twp., Middlesex Co. Thomas Cosens died July 4th, 1878, age 64. Farmer. Methodist. Born County of Surrey, England. Cause of death typhoid fever. Physician Wm. Caw, M.D. Informant Jos. Cosens, lot 18, con. 16, West Williams. Thomas' death registration places Thomas' birth in Surrey. This is possible, though it should be noted that siblings born before and after him were baptized in Wield, Hampshire. His parents were married in Wield. In later years and for a time they were in Fittleworth, Sussex. At the time the family came out to Canada it does appear that they were in Dorking, Surrey, so Surrey would have had a place in the family's history. Still, Thomas was probably born in Wield. He was certainly baptized in Wield. The names of the 10 children for Thomas and Ann as shown below are found in census information. This includes the 1851 and 1861 censuses in Wilmot Township and the 1871 census in West Williams Township. The 1900 census that includes Ann as well as her death registration claim that 15 children were born to her. As of 1900 it was claimed that 10 of these were still living; her death registration of 1905 tells that 9 were still living. It seems reasonable to believe that the five children not found died either as infants or young children. Burial information for children of Thomas and Ann who died young has not been found. This includes reference to cemeteries in Waterloo Township, Wilmot Township, and West Williams Township. |
