The handwriting on the marriage registration is such that it appears as if Eleanor's last name was Bulter. It is safe to say that 'Butler' is correct, for John and Eleanor are buried with both John and Eleanor's parents. The transcription of Mt. Hope Cemetery in Brantford makes that clear.

Eleanor Butler born 11th October, 1874. Parents Francis Butler, laborer, and Catherine Wilson. Physician Dr. Sparrow. Informant F. Butler.

The above registration was filed by Eleanor's father, apparently, on 20th October, 1874. The child's name was given as Elam and he was then marked as being male. In 1955, Eleanor herself filed a correction, at the least to her name, but also, apparently, to her date of birth. The month and year remained the same, but whatever the date of birth might have been given originally, it is overwritten by the number 11.

On her marriage registration, Eleanor shows her place of birth as Norwich, whether the village or the township (in Oxford County). It does appear clear enough that she was actually born in Windham Township of Norfolk County.

The family probably got around, for the 1881 census shows the family to be in Burford Township of Brant County. Francis, Eleanor's father, is shown as a stump puller.
