Residence 72 Barnesdale, Hamilton. Separated. Born Ancaster on September 28, 1871. Age 73 yrs., 2 mos., 5 dys. Housewife. Husband's name George Brown. Names of parents (questionably written) Albert House (or similar) and Clara Dandy (or similar). Both born Ancaster. Physician signing document G. Macdougall, coronor, Whitby. Burial Dec 5, 1944, at St. John's. At first glance, it was not clear in which St. John's Cemetery Rhoda was buried. It was noted, however, on the old list of cemeteries as transcribed by the Durham Region branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, that there was a St. John's Anglican Cemetery at Port Whitby. A copy of the transcription for this cemetery was obtained and, yes, this is where Rhoda is buried. It should be noted here that when the hospital was rebuilt not too many years ago, it was said to be located at Port Whitby. Just why she was buried in an Anglican Cemetery when marriage and census documentation show her as a Methodist isn't clear, but probably has to do with an arrangement with the hospital. And, there certainly appears to be a gravestone erected for Rhoda. The transcription shows this as: Nbr. 173 In memory of Rhoda Brown, 1871-1944 Also, there is a supplementary page on the transcription with death dates. For Rhoda, and apparently taken from the cemetery's records, dates her death to December 2, 1944. Her death registration shows her death date as December 3, 1944, and this is shown here. |
