| Note | The 1861 Canada West census was begun on January 4, 1861. George H. Husband, dentist, and wife Ellen, appear in Vaughan Township, York County, with daughter Edith, age 1. The age question for the 1861 census was: What is your age as of your next birthday. Annie was born 8th January, 1861, but the 1861 census was not taken in a day and, all considered, Edith is probably Annie, whose full name was probably something like Annie Edith. By the time the 1871 census was taken, the age question related soley to age at the time asked. Annie is shown as age 10 in this census. The 1871 census was begun April 2, so this still works. The name Edith does not appear again. No birth registration for Edith/Annie has been found. George and his first two wives are found buried in Thornhill Community Cemetery and infant children are with them, but no Edith. Annie is certainly there and recorded by the York County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society as being buried with her mother, though it's obviously a family plot that included George and his first two wives. Annie's dates of birth and death are taken from her grave inscription. It is possible that a family bible might tell a different story. |
