The handwriting on the marriage registration is that of John Dykes who was the recording clerk at Galt. His handwriting is such as to encourage a course in creative reading. There are some illegibilities on the registration, most of which are decipherable, but the name of the clergyman required a bit more help. He was Rev. John Ridley who was minister at the Anglican Church in Galt.

One obvious error that appears on the entry is the surname of Ellen's parents. They were William and Sarah Clark, not Levitt. This error is not that of John Dykes, but of John Ridley. The Brant County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcribed Trinity Anglican Church's marriage records from the era and Ridley has entered Levitt as Ellen's parents' surname.

DeathHe died on 14 May 1930 at Galt, Waterloo Co., at age 81.
BurialHe was buried on 16 May 1930 at Trinity Anglican Cemetery Galt.
NoteThe Vernon's 1910-1912 city directory for Galt & Preston shows working for Goldie & McCulloch as a machinist. This same directory shows his residence as Centre Street, Galt, at the corner of Centre and Elliott, on the west side. This will be the south west corner of Centre between Elliott and Birch Streets. So the extended family story goes, the Lovetts and Pitts lived kitty-corner to each other until William Lovett's death in 1884. Three years later, in 1887, Ellen Clark Lovett, widow married Alfred James Pitts, widower. She and her children then moved across the street to the yellow brick Pitts house. It was said to be quite a housefull.
