NoteWilliam George Clark, his wife Sarah, and sons Henry, age 27, and Charles, age 23, sailed from London and arrived Quebec City on July 13, 1870. The vessel was the SS Ganges. On the same vessel was William and Sarah's daughter, Ellen Lovett with her husband William and children William, Frederick, Catherine, and Charles.

William and Sarah weren't young. The passenger list shows their ages as 59 and 58. At a guess, the impetus for sailing to Canada came from the Lovetts. William Lovett almost certainly had a job to go to. Since they appear in Galt in the 1871 census which was begun in April of the year, Galt was probably their destination. By the time of William Lovett's death, he was working for Cowan & Company in Galt and they may have employed him from the beginning.

The Clarks and Lovetts are under one roof at the time of the 1871 census, along with Thirza Clark Mann and her one year old son Alexander. This was quite a housefull.

A passenger list showing Thirza's sailing to Canada has yet to be found.
